The Hyperscale is redefining storage and virtualization to best orchestrate digital storage for cloud applications in a drive for greater efficiency at scale.  Effectively and efficiently utilizing flash for stable and predictable latency in ever-changing cloud workloads through direct host management of flash is critical to achieving this goal.

KIOXIA is announcing a technology that redefines digital storage into a new approach that joins software flexibility, host control and flash native semantics into a “Flash Native API” and purpose-built hardware that maximizes the value of flash memory for cloud providers. This combination of technologies fundamentally redefines the relationship between the host and solid-state storage devices and bypasses legacy HDD storage paradigms to unlock host control and enable the use of flash at its natural speed. This approach provides a path-way to flash native architectures that can include traditional block, ZNS or custom FTL implementations and much more.

The “Software Enabled Flash” API and purpose-built hardware provides storage systems architects significant benefits that include ease of adoption and abstraction of flash generational changes. We will show you how we achieve this through flexible open source API’s, libraries and reference designs that insulate the implementer from low-level media management.
