Todayís service provider and large enterprise networks are expected to protect their high speed networks from security threats in order to better serve their customers. To that end, being able to incorporate security functions on the routing edge itself at high scale in a flexible and cost effective manner becomes a key criteria of success. AT&T and Palo Alto Networks are proposing a new type of OCP routing/switching white box that can also be used to host network-based firewall functionality.
