“Density diversity” and “sustainability” are two top challenges/opportunities in 2020+ data center design. A multitude of liquid cooling solutions are emerging to address the challenges of density diversity – where needs for high density clusters are popping up in lower density data centers. Deployment of liquid solutions in operating data centers requires distribution strategies that are adaptable, “mission critical rated” and minimal risk on data center operations. Strategic evaluation of the elevated temperature cooling enabled by liquids expands sustainability options, both use of economizers as well as energy reuse and cooling optimization solutions.

Discussion will look at the categories of liquid based cooling solutions (row, rackdoor, chip, immersion) and strategies to deploy liquids that align with considerations of sustainability, adaptability, mission critical performance, and minimal risk on data center operations.
